The widespread use and abuse of outdoor artificial light at night is man’s newest and perhaps fastest-growing form of pollution.  The impacts range from the aesthetic and cultural impacts of losing visual access to the natural night sky in our daily lives to wasted light’s role in climate change and the biological effects on wildlife and human health.  The good news is that light pollution can be easily addressed without losing the benefits of artificial lighting by implementing existing lighting standards.
